Teaching Methodology

Teaching Methodologies in Khozama

Khozama has adopted various teaching and learning methodologies or strategies that suit the 21st century learners. Our Teaching Methodologies are designed assuring that students attain mastery in Critical thinking, Creativity, Collaboration, Communication, Leadership and other 21st century skills. In order to enable our students to obtain these skills, we have teaching methodologies like Experiential Learning, Flipped Classroom and S.O.L.E. (Self Organised Learning Environments). In addition to these Teaching Methodologies, we have various Research oriented training programmes like EXPO, MUNC and so on which trigger the curiosity and interests of the students in the teaching and learning process.

Experiential Learning

The Experiential Learning methodology, is the flagship programme adopted by our school for Primary Sections and this, no doubt, has created a mechanism which reflects a visible impact in student's learning. It has created an improvement in the grasping of basic concepts, vocabulary and communication skills. The heart of this methodology is the belief that it's a comprehensive solution and an endeavor to propel children towards excellence by development of a strong foundation in the critical primary years of their life. This is a research – based academic programme that builds think skills and problem-solving confidence in children. Students in our classrooms grasp core concepts, better communicate fluently in English and perform better on reasoning and application- based tests.

In today’s competitive environment, it has become mandatory for students to understand and be able to apply the concepts they study in school in the real world.

Our Teaching Methodology enables the children ask more questions, can write in their own words and it is an academic solution design to raise the level of learning in classrooms and build confidence in children. We follow the proven 5- step experiential learning method which replaces the one – step ‘telling’ and memorization followed in many traditional classrooms. It makes children confident and ready with skills required for higher studies and career.

The five Step Experiential Learning Method:

Our teachers begin a class by clearly stating the learning goal, checking the previous knowledge of the children, demonstrate and experiment or conduct a group activity, ensure the ‘application questions’ are done independently, assess daily and support each child individually.

Flipped Classroom

A flipped classroom is a type of blended learning where students are introduced to content at home and practice working through it at school. This is the reverse of the more common practice of introducing new content at school, then assigning homework and projects to be completed by the students independently at home. In this blended learning approach, face-to-face interaction is mixed with independent study–usually via technology. In a common Flipped Classroom scenario, students might watch pre-recorded videos at home, then come to school to do the homework armed with questions and at least some background knowledge.

S.O.L.E. - Self Organized Learning Environments

In order to encourage the research oriented learning among children, we have incorporated theS.O.L.E strategy to encourage the self-learning experience among the children.

The premise behind the S.O.L.E. strategy lies in the theory that students are capable of learning for themselves and also teaching themselves. The strategy is based on collaboration and explanatory talk with a question /provocation being used as the basis for internet research.

Children learn in small groups which they organise themselves, with teachers taking a significantly lesser role in the learning process. Students are free to discover content with minimal teacher intervention. Once content is discovered and shared, a skilled teacher negotiates evidence of learning and the application of knowledge with their students.

Al Khozama Kindergarten

Kindergarten, which literally means a garden for children, is an exciting time full of learning and fun!

Optimizing the early years of children’s lives is the best investment we can make as a society in safeguarding their future success. The first six years’ experience brings in the most rapid changes of life and are truly critical in a child's development. This age is particularly noted for a child’s physical, intellectual, emotional and social growth. Also, the earliest years of a child’s life are the key factors in foreseeingthe ultimate success in their school and personal life. Kindergarten is a time for children to expand their love of learning, their general knowledge, their ability to get along with others and their interest in reaching out to the world. Our education program is set to meet all such standards by providing a nurturing environment. Our learning atmosphere promises to be the one filled with discovery and joy as children work & play in an environment that is warm, safe and challenging. While Kindergarten marks an important transition, it is important that children still get to be children.

CURRICULUM & TEACHING METHODOLOGY:

Our school follows the CBSE curriculum with Experiential Learning Methods, proposed by XSEEDTeaching Methodology which is designed to raise the level of learning in classrooms and build confidence in children. It follows the 5-Step Experiential learning method where concepts are taught through hands-on experiments. Teachers in kindergarten classrooms use several teaching methods to ensure that each child is learning what he/she needs to know. Teaching methods are planned to help children remain challenged, incorporating a wide range of instructional strategies.

The range of academic abilities can vary so much from children to children, in order to meet that, kindergarten teachers use differentiated instruction. This method requires teachers to know how each child learns most effectively and modify instruction and classroom assignments to meet those needs. The use of different learning tools, such as books, audio-visual aids and hands-on materials, is part of the differentiated teaching method. In other words, differentiated instruction provides children with several avenues to learn the same material, which increases the chance that each child will be successful.

READING PROGRAMME:

Our Reading Programme is designed in such a way that children learn to communicate, from learning the sounds that constitute words, to figure out what the words mean and to determine how to combine them into syntactic strings that have meaning. Their learning is through the Primary Phonics way which is a fun and child centered approach to teaching literacy through synthetic phonics. Kindergarten maintains a classroom atmosphere of warmth and acceptance and it is one of the few places where children’s opinions and ideas are heard and valued. Engaging them in a lot of fun and exciting activities, designed to promote &improve their growth and development, the structure of the day is carefully scheduled to encourage independence, self- confidence and group cooperation through large group, small group and one to one participation in a variety of hands-on, interactive experiences. The kindergarten method of teaching prepares children for more formal learning that takes place in higher gradesin school.

AL Khozama International School promises to provide a secure and natural learning environment to children, to learn and bloom into responsible, disciplined and balanced human beings. Here at Kindergarten,

“Learning is real and the application of skills are more concrete”.
